BISMARCK — After the targeted political attacks of two Minnesota lawmakers and their families in June, the North Dakota Legislature is brainstorming ways to keep legislators safe.

Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were shot and killed on June 14, and Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were injured in a shooting that same day. A grand jury indicted Vance Boelter on six charges for allegedly stalking and shooting the lawmakers.

"We're not necessarily secure as we think we may be," said North Dakota Sen. Jerry Klein, R-Fessenden, in a Procedures and Arrangements Committee meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

In response to the shootings, the North Dakota Legislative Council immediately took every lawmaker's address off the Legislature's website
