INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was convicted Wednesday of shooting and killing a 20-year-old in September 2023.

In an Aug. 13, 2025 release, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced Michael Owens was convicted of the Sept. 11, 2023 murder of 20-year-old Keontae Walls-Leonard following a three-day jury trial.

The jury reportedly deliberated for 90 minutes before reaching a verdict.

Court documents say on the day of the shooting, IMPD officers were called to the 1000 block of Montery Road, which is near the intersections of East 42nd Street and North Mitthoefer Road on the far east side of Indianapolis.
