LE MARS, Iowa (KTIV) - Have you ever scrubbed in for surgery? Or, have you tested lab samples? Without training or a degree in medicine or nursing, the answer is probably “no” unless you’re one of a handful of middle school students from Le Mars, Iowa, who had those opportunities during “Experience Health Day.”

On Wednesday, Aug. 13, Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars was filled with 7th and 8th-grade students.

They walked in the door as students ready to get scrubbed in, and dressed for the operating room, and came out with a better idea of what it’s like to be in the medical field.

7th-grade student, Jackson Lofflin, said, “I kind of want to know how everything works around here because I’ve walked around here, but I’ve never really known what happens around here.”
