BROWNSVILLE — A jury found Leonardo Baez and Nora Alicia Avila-Guel guilty on all charges Wednesday afternoon in the federal government’s case against them, accusing the owners of Abby’s Bakery in Los Fresnos of harboring people in the country illegally.

The verdict marks a milestone in the Trump administration’s hardline approach to border security leading to mass deportations and raids.

A visibly emotional Sergio Villarreal, defense attorney for Baez, told reporters outside the Brownsville federal courthouse following the verdict, which came after jurors deliberated for three-and-a-half hours, that he loves his job and his clients.
