NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - New statistics show violent crime is down in the Elm City.

Statistics show violent crime is at the lowest point in the last ten years.

Behind the drop, officials pointed to increased technology, collaboration, and gaining the community’s trust.

Although the stats say crime is down, Tyrese Cloud says it doesn’t feel that way.

“I feel youth need more structure. The shooting and the violence, I feel like a lot of fathers need to step up,” Cloud said.

Downtown with his young son, Tylon, he says he has even considered moving.

“I don’t want my son to grow up around this type of stuff,” Cloud said.

New Haven’s police chief and mayor say the city is moving in the right direction.

“Crime is down overall in almost every metric in the city when compared to last year.
