PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - The first day of school is right around the corner and, Pitt County Schools transportation has been preparing.

As soon as the school year ends, transportation staff start mapping bus routes.

Buses also undergo routine maintenance, including oil changes and thorough inspections, to meet the latest state safety standards.

“How they get to school, what time the bus comes, it’s all important because it all impacts the overall emotional well-being,” LeShaun Jenkins, principal of Pitt County Early College High School, told WITN. “So by the time they get on the bus and get off the bus, that has influenced how they walk into the school.
