ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Lawmakers, educators and researchers met in Atlanta on Thursday to address how cellphones are affecting student learning as districts prepare to enforce new restrictions next school year.
The statewide symposium at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health brought together education leaders and a bipartisan group of legislators to discuss balancing students’ need for personal devices with the need to limit classroom distractions.
Nearly all students use their phones during the school day, according to research from the National Education Association and JAMA Pediatrics. Half receive hundreds of notifications daily, which can make it harder to focus on lessons.
