REMERTON, Ga. (WALB) - City leaders said a reduction in bar hours for the city of Remerton is a permanent change. The city voted to roll back bar closing times by an hour during the council meeting on Monday, Aug. 11, ending service at 1 a.m.

The decision comes after an emergency alcohol ordinance expired this week. In July, the city temporarily amended the Alcoholic Beverage Ordinance, requiring bars to close by midnight for 30 days, through Aug. 10.

Lt. Derrick Sinclair, Remerton Public Information Officer said, “In that 30 day period, we only had two calls to the bars. One was a medical call, and the other was disturbance, but the gentleman was gone by the time we got there.”
