TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A former teacher at a school in Visalia who was convicted of attempted murder is now suitable for parole, the Tulare County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

The DA's office said that 71-year-old Donna Andrews has been in jail since 2006 after she was found guilty of attempted murder and assault with a firearm.

According to the DA, on March 10, 2005, Andrews and her husband, both teachers in the Visalia Unified School District at the time, went to their son and daughter-in-law's Visalia home for dinner.

Andrews' son showed his parents his new Glock 9 mm semiautomatic handgun and then placed it on a table.

Later that evening, the DA said, at around 7:40 p.m., Andrews fired that same handgun twice while in the dining room. She then fled the home.
