TAYLORS, S.C. —

An Upstate horseback riding stable with roots dating back to before the 1970s is facing the threat of closure.

Barn owner Kim Carter leased between 15 and 20 acres of the 90-acre countryside in Taylors from a property owner 20 years ago. Her intention with Bramblewood Stables started as a forever home for retirement horses.

"We are the last public horse farm where people can come, take lessons, be with horses and not have to own horses or go to competitions," Carter said. "This land has been a continuously operating public horse farm since the late 1970s. Before that, it was farmland.”

The barn quickly grew to host more than 100 people every week.
