Defenseman Riley McCourt, who set the Toledo Walleye franchise record for assists by a defenseman in a season, is returning to the team.

McCourt, who played for the Walleye in 2023-24, has re-signed with the team. McCourt, 25, has played in two seasons for Toledo.

The native of St. Catharines, Ont., tallied 44 assists as part of a 52-point campaign in 2023-24.

McCourt played for a team based in Germany, the Augsburger Panther, last season. He finished with 22 points (4 G, 18 A) and 57 penalty minutes in 50 games for the team.

The defenseman also played for the Walleye in 2022-23 when he had 26 points (20 G, 6 A) in 40 games.

McCourt has a chance to set several defensemen franchise records. McCourt has 78 points (14 G, 64 A) with 151 penalty minutes, and a plus-minus rating of plus-49
