Workers need to earn three times more than Indiana's minimum wage just to survive, a new study found.

Indiana mandates the federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. But the cost of living would require a $20.81 per hour wage to cover, according to the MIT Living Wage Calculator.

A study by the SEO consulting firm Artios found Indiana had the third highest gap nationally between the minimum wage and the cost of basic necessities for one working adult with no children. The study examined the expense of food, childcare, health care, housing and transportation.

Georgia had the biggest pay gap nationally with a $5.15 an hour state minimum wage and average living costs that would require a paycheck of $23.94 an hour.
