EAST CHICAGO — A 22-year-old man from East Chicago was identified as the victim of a homicide after sustaining gunshot wounds Thursday morning, according to a report from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The victim, Jontavis Pearson, was pronounced dead at St. Catherine’s Hospital on Thursday at 7:53 a.m. after being transported from the scene at 3612 Superior Court. An autopsy conducted at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point confirmed the cause of death as homicide due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Several agencies, including East Chicago police and the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, are involved in the investigation.
