LUDINGTON — The Mason County Sheriff’s Office says they have new evidence in a 32-year-old cold case investigation.

Back on June 23, 1993, 15-year-old Melissa Simmons was last seen while walking to the Scottville Wesco gas station.

It was a fisherman who found her body later that day in the Pere Marquette River.

A medical examiner ruled melissa’s death a homicide.

Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole had his detectives re-open the case about two years ago.

They have found new evidence that has led them to getting it tested in Virginia.

Investigators there have now built a DNA profile.

Cole says, with all this evidence, they have exhumed Melissa’s body from a cemetery to help them in the investigation.
