TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - More and more research is showing the powerful benefits of sleep and getting plenty of it, and nowhere is that more crucial than students returning to school this fall.

The dawn of a new school year has arrived at the University of Alabama. Before long, some 40,000 students will be scurrying to and fro’ on campus.

“Sleep is really important,” said UA associate professor of Health Sciences Dr. Adam Knowlden.

And that is the very thing Dr. Adam Knowlden advises students coming back from their summer break.

“In order for students to retain information and knowledge that their gaining from their classroom environment, lectures, and homework assignments, they need that 8 to 9 hours of quality of sleep,” said Dr. Knowlden.
