The state Attorney General’s Office and State Police Major Crimes Unit are investigating after a Keene man was shot and killed by a police officer during a motor vehicle stop followed by a standoff Tuesday night, officials said.
David Ward, 57, died from multiple gunshot wounds, and a state medical examiner determined the manner of death was a homicide, Attorney General John M. Formella said in a news release Wednesday.
Ward was driving with an adult female passenger near a TD Bank in the area of West Street and Gilbo Avenue in Keene when officers stopped the car, according to the report. The woman exited the car but Ward remained inside, police said.
“Officers were informed that the male had a gun and later observed him with the firearm,” officials said.
A “prolonged standoff” ensued
