CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was fatally shot Wednesday in a parking lot on the city's West Side.

The shooting happened around 6:14 p.m. in the 5000 block of West Madison Street in South Austin, Chicago police said.

The victim, a 42-year-old man, was in a parking lot at the location when he was shot by an offender who approached in an unknown vehicle, police said.

The man was shot in the chest and was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity was not yet known.

No arrests have been made as Chicago police continue to investigate.
