PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Less than a week after residents learned officials were slated to remove traffic diverters from three intersections in Northwest Portland, city leaders have tentatively decided to walk back those plans.

Portland Press Officer Cody Bowman confirmed that the city has paused its previous plans to remove diverters from Northwest 20th Avenue and Northwest Everett Street, and on Northwest Johnson Street at Northwest 14th and 15th Avenues.

According to a memo City Administrator Michael Jordan issued on Tuesday, the planters were first installed in 2019 amid attempts to boost safety for pedestrians and cyclists. But officials have reported that the neighboring area has seen more crime in the time since.
