EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office is intensifying efforts to enforce traffic laws as students return to school.
On Tuesday, Vanderburgh County deputies issued two citations and two warnings for improper passing of school buses.
"We've been doing this for a number of years and it's the same thing every year," said Sgt. Andy Norris of the Education Services Unit.
The sheriff's office is focused on ensuring drivers adhere to speed limits in school zones and stop when school buses are picking up or dropping off students. One significant challenge is that some drivers are unsure about stopping on roadways with more than two lanes of traffic.
All lanes must stop unless separated by a physical median.
