On Wednesday at 8:13 p.m. the National Weather Service released an updated flash flood warning in effect until 9 p.m. for Essex and Middlesex counties.
"At 8:13 p.m., Doppler radar indicated weakening thunderstorms which were producing moderate to heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen, which has triggered significant basement flooding in Topsfield according to the town fire department. The expected rainfall rate is 0.25 to 1 inch in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," comments the weather service. "Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas."
