GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) -- For those who enjoy the downtown Greensboro greenway, there’s a new safety feature to give you extra peace of mind.

Privately-funded markers are now visible in 13 places, roughly every quarter mile of the downtown loop, to help identify your location if you need emergency services.

They aren’t just words on wood. They are integrated into first responder mapping, so it’s easier to find exactly where you are, even if you aren’t sure what marker you’re near.

“These downtown greenway rescue markers were made possible by private donations, generously given through our final mile campaign, so each of our donors is recognized on the markers along the way,” said Chelsea Phipps, greenway and gardens programming coordinator for the City of Greensboro.
