OXFORD COUNTY, Maine — A young adult from Unity was rescued Wednesday afternoon after falling more than 20 feet from a ledge at Screw Auger Falls in Oxford County.
Maine Game Wardens responded to the scene in Grafton Township around 1:30 p.m.
Brexton Getchell, 21, fell about 25 to 30 feet into the water and was seriously injured, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
The Mahoosuc Mountain Search and Rescue Team, Oxford County Sheriff's Office, Bethel Fire and Rescue, Newry Fire Department, Maine Department of Transportation, and LifeFlight of Maine responded to the scene.
Due to the challenging terrain in the gorge, the department said crews carried Getchell through the water to a point roughly 300 feet downstream, where he was then brought by LifeFlight t
