The CDC says the FDA might not renew authorization for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine formulated for children under five, which could make it harder for parents to secure shots this fall. Without FDA approval, healthy children in that age group would need off-label doses administered by a willing physician or pharmacist. Earlier this year, HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the CDC will no longer recommend the shots for healthy children or pregnant women. The CDC reports children accounted for about 4% of COVID-19 hospitalizations last fall and winter.
