GREEN BAY — Matt LaFleur called it a great question. Unfortunately, at least for now, he doesn’t have a great answer.

With two games against NFC contenders at Lambeau Field in the first five days of the 2025 NFL regular season — Sept. 7 against the reigning NFC North-champion Detroit Lions and Sept. 11 against a Washington Commanders outfit that reached last year’s NFC Championship Game — the Green Bay Packers head coach and offensive play-caller wanted that side of the ball to be hitting its stride by training camp’s end.

Instead, LaFleur has his quarterback, Jordan Love, recovering from surgery on his left (non-throwing) thumb — a minimally invasive surgery, but surgery nonetheless — and has a wide receiving corps riddled with injuries to the unit’s top returnees.
