EAST ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A local cemetery in the foothills east of Elmira has seen better days, but one local teenager and Eagle Scout candidate is undertaking an effort to restore the final resting place of dozens.

On Greatsinger Road, not far from Forest Lawn Memorial Park resides the Greatsinger Cemetery. Containing gravesites from as far back as the mid-1800s, and it's seen better days.

Xavier Gallo, 17, is looking to restore the Greatsinger Cemetery as well as access to it, as part of his candidacy to becoming an Eagle Scout.

"My goal is basically to clear out all the trees and all the overgrown stuff over the cemeteries," remarked Gallo of Troop 43, clean up the graves, make a pathway leading into an entranceway and restore the fence."
