WASHINGTON D.C. — U.S. schools saw more than 1.29 million criminal incidents between 2020 and 2024, according to newly released FBI data that provides a detailed picture of offenses, victims and offenders on campus.
The Crime in Schools report, compiled from the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System, found assaults were the most common crimes against people.
Larceny/thefts topped property crimes, and drug offenses led the “crimes against society” category, the report says. September was the peak month for reported incidents, which is shortly after students return to the classrooms, according to the data.
