BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A jury in Blount County found a former sheriff’s deputy guilty of second-degree assault and failure of duty after an unprovoked attack on an inmate at the Blount County Correctional Facility.

The trial started Monday, Aug. 11 with jury selection and a jury convicted Joseph Ray Snow on Wednesday.

Snow was indicted by a grand jury in February 2023 after an incident in December 2022 at the Blount County Correctional Facility.

According to Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey, officers with the Oneonta Police Department arrested a man for public intoxication and took him to the Blount County Correctional Facility and left him with the sheriff’s office to book him into the jail.
