Two people have sustained fractures while 48 others suffered minor injuries in a road accident that occurred earlier today at Katawa area in Nkhata Bay District.
According to Devoter Mithi, the deputy spokesperson for Nkhata Bay Police, the accident involved a Toyota Dyna lorry traveling from Old Maula to Sanga Trading Centre along the Nkhotakota–Nkhata Bay M5 Road.
The vehicle, driven by 25-year-old Robert Phiri of Khwelenje Village, Traditional Authority Fukamalaza, was carrying 50 passengers en route to a funeral ceremony within the district.
“Upon reaching the Katawa area, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed, causing it to overturn on the extreme nearside of the road,” Mithi reported.
