DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — A 20-year-old Douglas County Sheriff’s Office correctional officer was denied bond Wednesday for aggravated sex crimes after an investigation involving a woman in the custody of the jail.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation began Monday, Aug. 11, after a tip about a possible sexual assault at the jail, officials said. Detectives determined Christian Nicholas Joe had engaged in sexual contact with a woman being held at the facility, according to the sheriff’s office.

He had been on the job for 37 days.

Joe is charged with sexual assault by a law enforcement employee, aggravated sodomy, and violation of oath of office, according to the office.

The sheriff’s office said Joe was booked into the Douglas County Adult Detention Center.
