LINCOLN – Bessie Carvalho said she’s elated to be the new director of the Lincoln Senior Center, located at 150 Jenckes Hill Road.
After 22 years as director of the center, Lois Durkin retired from the role last month. Carvalho, who has served as program director at the center since 2021, was hired to take Durkin’s place.
“I have big, big shoes to fill … Lois was so amazing, and over the last few years she’s taught me so much,” said Carvalho.
Prior to working at the center, Carvalho, a Lincoln resident of nearly three decades, spent five years as the assistant director at the Family Literacy Center, and was a Zumba instructor.
Through her lessons, Carvalho said she was able to empower adults of all ages to stay active, gain strength, and feel confident.
“I absolutely loved being at th
