Pope Leo XIV on Sunday, Aug 3, told more than one million Catholic youths at a Mass that they are “the sign that a different world is possible." He encouraged the young people to “seek justice in order to build a more humane world." His statement is profound in today’s world and here in the U.S. My concern is how can we in America seek justice if we don’t know what it is or don’t recognize it? In the Bible Pontius Pilate asked about truth. A similar question in today’s world might be, “What is justice?”
Justice is not defined by cultural trends. It is not based on feelings or personal desires. Justice is based on truth that is supported by facts or evidence. The underlying principle that often gets overlooked is distinguishing between legal justice and moral justice. They are not the same
