CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - Cleveland City Council is taking steps to make downtown public garages and parking lots safer.

At their meeting on Thursday, councilmembers ordered all public garages must maintain a minimum of one footcandle of illumination across all walking surfaces and 10 footcandles in stairwells and landings.

This is for all garages and lots in the Downtown Designated Districts, including, downtown, Warehouse, Erieview, and Gateway areas.

Council added lighting must also be shielded to prevent glare onto any adjacent residential buildings.
