KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - What started as a stolen vehicle check ended with one person dead, six others hurt, and a suspect on the run.

It all went down in the historic northeast around midnight Thursday, August 14.

Police attempted to pull over a Hyundai reported stolen at Independence and Brooklyn Avenues. The driver refused to stop and took off. Police ended pursuit at Independence and Wabash Avenues.

At Lexington and Wabash, the Hyundai ran through a stop sign, hitting a Jeep. The Jeep’s driver and three passengers, including a kid, were all rushed to local hospitals with critical injuries. The right rear passenger, an adult, was ejected from the car and killed.

The driver and one of two passengers in the Hyundai are in serious but stable condition.
