Winter is “shaping up to be a wild ride,” according to the most recent outlook from the Farmers’ Almanac .

Many parts of the U.S. are in store for some cold bursts over the course of the coming winter, according to the outlook. The first of those cold snaps is forecast to hit in December and could result in a chilly holiday season.

Although the cold may extend to various areas across the country, the Farmers’ Almanac believes the coldest conditions will impact the Northern Plains through New England. Particularly cool conditions could occupy the Northwest as well.

Some of the coldest outbreaks of the winter are set to impact much of the U.S. in mid-January and mid-February, the Farmers’ Almanac winter forecast shared.
