EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — A man in Evansville faced serious charges after an incident involving a homemade explosive device at a construction site.

Authorities arrested Joshua Messic after deputies from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a sparkler bomb on North Elm Street.

Construction workers from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) were present when they heard a loud explosion.

One worker was hit by flying debris, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The investigation led to Messic's arrest, and he was charged with possession of a destructive device and criminal recklessness.

Messic admitted to lighting the sparkler bomb, stating he was "tired of the noise and wanted to make a point," deputies said.
