CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – A flight headed from Charlotte to Rome had to turn back over the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday evening due to a possible mechanical issue, according to American Airlines.

Flight 720, a Boeing 777-200 carrying 265 passengers and 12 crew members, took off from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) on its way to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport (FCO). But while flying over the ocean, the crew decided to return to Charlotte.

The plane landed safely back in the Queen City and was able to taxi to the gate under its own power, AA officials said. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
