CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Five people are facing felony charges in connection to an elderly financial exploitation scheme out of River Bend.
River Bend police say the investigation started on March 14 of last year when officers got a report about fraud targeting an elderly couple in town.
Officers found evidence of criminal conduct dating back to November of 2023. They identified five suspects, including two who were serving as in-home caregivers to the victims.
Wednesday, a Craven County Grand Jury formally charged the group with a total of 139 felonies.
The suspects are 39-year-old Ashley Berry of Pollocksville and 35-year-old Myashia Bryant, 78-year-old Earl Williams, 45-year-old Adam Reeves and 47-year-old Monica Brimmage of New Bern.
