YouTube is cracking down on its age verification process as the company is using artificial intelligence tools to guess its users ages.

The decision from YouTube is an effort to prevent children from accessing inappropriate content online, the platform said in a blog post .

As of Wednesday, YouTube has been using AI technology to interpret a variety of signals if certain users are under the age of 18.

If the system determines the user is underage, it will apply “age-appropriate experiences and protections.”

The protections include disabling personalized advertising, turning on digital wellbeing tools and adding safeguards to recommendations, including limiting repetitive views of some kinds of content.
