LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Jackson County Prosecutors' Office has charged Leonard Hugall with the murder of a 13-year-old girl over 40 years ago in Summit Township.

The office reports that Prosecuting Attorney Kelsey Guernsey and Jackson County Sheriff Gary Schuette have charged Hugall with Homicide - First Degree Felony Murder and Homicide - Second Degree Murder.

Hugall is currently in Florida and will be extradited to Jackson County.

Felony Murder carries a mandatory sentence of life without parole in Michigan.

The office reports that the investigation began in 1984 in Summit Township when the 13-year-old girl was reported missing. The girl was never found.

The investigation continued over the years and culminated in Hugall being charged in connection with her disappearance.
