CHEYENNE — The man convicted last month of the 2015 Coin Shop murders was sentenced Tuesday to two consecutive life sentences in prison without the possibility of parole.

On July 18, a Laramie County District Court jury found Douglas Smith guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of The Coin Shop’s owner, 67-year-old Dwight Brockman, and Brockman’s friend, 76-year-old George “Doc” Manley.

Smith was arrested on June 25, 2024, in California, after Cheyenne Police Department detectives said conflicting statements Smith made to investigators between 2015 and 2023 pointed to his guilt. He was the 911 caller on the day of the murders, and has maintained his innocence throughout.
