ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Sentara Albemarle Medical Center in Elizabeth City has officially opened, including its new family maternity center. And for patients, the move comes with upgrades designed for comfort and care.

The Family Maternity Center now operates as a combined labor, delivery, recovery, and post-partum unit, allowing patients to stay in one room from admission to discharge.

“There was a chance they could be moved three times,” said Cheryl Simpson, nurse manager for the center. “So this way they can come into a room, stay put, and have the comfort of not moving around.”
