NEW MARKET, Tenn. (WATE) — A former Appalachian Electric Cooperative employee is facing theft charges after an investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation into William Robert Gass began in February 2024 at the request of 4th Judicial District Attorney General James Dunn. The TBI said that their agents discovered that between October 2022 and September 2023, Gass used AEC bank accounts to pay personal expenses while serving as the cooperative's accounting director.

Gass was indicted with theft over $10,000 and official misconduct charges by a Jefferson County Grand Jury this week. He turned himself in on August 14 and was booked on a $5,000 bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
