HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Friday, Aug. 15 will mark six months since severe weather caused flooding in Eastern Kentucky.

Perry County was an area hit hard by the flood.

France’s Diner is just one of many businesses in downtown Hazard that suffered significant damage.

The wood trim along the walls of the diner mark just how high floodwaters were.

“Well it was just completely totaled us away, right down to the chairs, tables and everything. It washed us out,” owner Frances Napier said.

With everything inside the diner destroyed, many folks in the community put their mud boots on to help the diner get back to business.

Some clean-up efforts included students from high schools in the county and others in the community.

“I appreciate what people did do. We couldn’t have done it without them,”
