KIMT News 3 — The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services has reported the first West Nile virus case of 2025. The infection was confirmed in a middle-aged adult from northern Iowa through testing at the State Hygienic Lab.
With warm weather encouraging outdoor activities, the risk of mosquito bites, which can transmit the virus, has increased. Mosquitoes across Iowa have tested positive for West Nile virus, indicating a statewide risk.
To protect against the virus, Iowans are advised to use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, para-menthane-diol, 2-undecanone, or IR3535.
