VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - A task force representing a dozen Florida counties is preparing to speak with the Valdosta City Council on Thursday evening.
The meeting comes amid rising concerns about sewage spills, with the most recent incident happening on July 13. A mechanical failure caused the spill into Sugar Creek , which also flows into the Withlacoochee River and Suwannee River.
Valdosta City Councilman Tim Carroll said the biggest hurdle to solving the sewage spill issue has been funding.
“Last year, we took out a $67 million bond. It is dedicated to trying to get ahead of the sewer spills. It’ll give us the funds to be more proactive in our maintenance and updates to our sewer system,” Carroll said.
