LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man is facing charges after police say he attempted to strangle and assault a woman.

John Greenwade, 45, was arrested near the Thorntons gas station on Versailles Road just after midnight Thursday.

Police say Greenwade was attempting to strangle a woman by placing his arms around her neck, telling the victim he was going to steal her soul. They say he then threw the woman against the side of a building as she was attempting to get away.

Greenwade is charged with strangulation and assault.
