FARGO — Disability professionals are sharing solutions and new ways to better include people with disabilities into the community.
On Thursday, Aug. 14, they held the second annual Olmstead Conference in Fargo.
Disability leaders shared the history of the Supreme Court’s Olmstead decision, which mandated that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities should receive community-based care and not be held in institutions.
The Olmstead Commission coordinator says people with disabilities deserve to live fulfilling lives.
“The whole goal of the commission is to move North Dakota towards greater integration for people with disabilities in all aspects — education and housing and transportation and employment,” said Stephanie Bouche, Olmstead Commission coordinator.
