TILTON, N.H. —

An 81-year-old Westford, Massachusetts, man died Thursday after trying to swim after an adrift boat in a lake, New Hampshire State Police said.

NHSP Marine Patrol responded to Lake Winnisquam in Tilton at about 11:35 a.m. for a water rescue involving a man, later identified as Jack Bilodeau, 81, who was believed to have been swimming after his drifting boat near Mohawk Island.

"Bilodeau was last seen having a possible medical event in the water and briefly submerged before being quickly pulled out of the lake by a good Samaritan," New Hampshire State Police said.

The good Samaritan performed lifesaving efforts on Bilodeau on shore along Route 3 in Tilton until first responders arrived. Bilodeau was then taken to Concord Hospital-Laconia, where he was pronounced dead.
