GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A driver was rescued from a pond after a two-car collision in the West Valley late Thursday morning, thanks to bystanders who jumped in to help.
The crash happened at the intersection of 59th Avenue and Behrend Drive in Glendale, just south of the Loop 101. According to Glendale police, a car was turning left from northbound 59th Avenue onto westbound Behrend Drive when it was struck by a southbound red sedan.
The red car caught fire, while the other vehicle lost control and drove into an apartment complex pond. Police say bystanders jumped into the water to rescue the driver, who was still in the underwater car. After opening the door, they removed the driver’s seatbelt and helped the person to safety.
