A tropical wave in the southwest Gulf could develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm at worst, and could enhance rain chances in Southeast Louisiana on Friday.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has outlined the western portion of the Gulf for possible tropical formation.

The NHC is now calling this Invest 98-L. It is turning over the far southwest Gulf with a fairly large storm shield.

The low is forecast to move west-northwest across the western Gulf through Friday. Environmental conditions are marginally conducive for further development. The system is forecast to move inland over Mexico/Texas by late Friday, ending its chances for formation. There is only a low chance of tropical formation over the next 48 hours.
